Moderation

There are 3 flash tutorials for this documentation. View the list of flash tutorials in this thread or on the flash tutorial page.

As there are several moderation options available in MyBB, to make it easier, here is an explanation of everything in there:

Inline Moderation: Forum Display

Explanation of Inline Moderation: Inline moderation makes it easier to moderate your forums. All you have to do is check the checkbox on the right side of the forum display next to the thread(s) you wish to do actions to. Then, at the bottom, in the "Inline Thread Moderation" box, there is a drop down box with the following options. Then click go to perform the inline thread moderation.

Close Threads: This will close (a.k.a. lock) the selected threads.

Open Threads: This does just the opposite of closing a thread. This opens it, making it available for posting in. Obviously, the thread would already have to be closed for you to open it.

Stick Threads: This "sticks" threads. When you stick them, the threads appear near the top of the forum display, just under the announcements, under the header "Important Threads".

Unstick Threads: This does just the opposite of sticking a thread - instead of it being displayed under "Important Threads", it is displayed under "Normal Threads".

Delete Threads: This will permanently delete the threads selected. There is no way to undo this, so we recommend you unapprove threads rather than delete them.

Move Threads: This will move the selected thread(s) to the forum you choose.

Approve Threads: This will make the selected thread(s) appear to registered members. If a thread is "unapproved", only staff members can see it. This is only needed in forums that require moderation queue, or if the thread was unapproved by someone else.

Unapprove Threads: This makes the selected thread(s) hide from forum view for regular members. In forums that require moderation queue, new threads will automatically become unapproved.

Inline Moderation: Thread Display

Explanation of Inline Moderation: Inline moderation makes it easier to moderate your forums. All you have to do is check the checkbox on the upper right side of the post. Then, at the bottom, in the "Inline Post Moderation" box, there is a drop down box with the following options. Then click go to perform the inline thread moderation.

Delete Posts: This will permanently delete the selected posts - we recommend you unapprove posts rather than delete them.

Merge Posts: This merges the selected posts together - its that simple. Not much to explain.

Split Posts: This will split the selected posts up.

Approve Posts: If moderation queue is required for new posts in that forum, you will have to use this tool to approve those posts. If it was unapproved by someone else, you can approve it again.

Unapprove Posts: This unapproves the selected post(s) and hides them from member's view.

Moderation Options: Forum Display

Explanation of Moderation Options: Moderation Options is the way to do actions to the thread you are viewing while you are viewing it.

Edit / View Thread Notes: This lets you edit or view moderator notes on this thread.

Open / Close Thread: This will open or close the thread. Closing it lets only those who are allowed to post in closed threads post in the thread, while those who can not post in closed threads can not do so.

Delete Thread: This will permanently delete the thread you are viewing - we recommend you do not delete threads, but unapprove them instead

Delete Selected Posts: This will permanently delete the posts that you have selected. We recommend you don't delete posts, but unapprove them, but this is simply a recommendation.

Move / Copy Thread: This lets you move/copy the thread to another forum.

Stick / Unstick Thread: This sticks or unsticks the thread. If it is currently 'stuck', it will unstick it, and if it is 'unstuck', it will stick it.

Split Thread: This splits the selected posts into a new thread, in the forum that you choose.

Merge Threads: This merges the selected threads.

Merge Selected Posts: This is like inline moderation, where you can select posts and merge them.

Remove Redirects: Doing this removes all redirects to the thread. For instance, if you moved the thread, and you left a redirect thread in the original forum, this removes the redirect you created when you moved it.

Unapprove Thread: This unapproves the thread, for instance if you didn't want to delete it, but you wanted to review it later, you could.
