Found a fix for the posting issue that worked on my test forum.
Go to Admin CP > Templates and Style > Templates > Default Templates > Ungrouped templates > find " codebuttons" and under options click revert back to original.

Interestingly on two of my forums, it was set to the original - and they were the two where no-one had complained.
